amaderadda.com---Fabric from India, made in Bangladesh. That is the deal several Indian apparel makers are hoping to stitch up.
Indian shirt-maker NSL Textile, for instance, is trying to import readymade shirts from Bangladesh that would be marketed under the brand name Constello. The Rs.15 billion enterprise is among the many Indian brands eyeing import of shirts from Bangladesh as local suppliers can offer competitive prices and quality.
'Several Indian brands, including NSL, are exploring tie-ups with garment-makers in Bangladesh by bringing fabrics from India,' a Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters' Association (BGMEA) official told amaderadda.com.
Since the Bangladeshi garment industry enjoys duty-free imports of fabrics, there is attraction for Indian brands for importing Bangladeshi shirts made of imported fabrics.
Meanwhile, Bangladeshi garment makers are upbeat about the Indian market, but want the government to persuade New Delhi to remove what they call 'para-tariffs'.

amaderadda.com---A SENIOR Bangladesh army officer has been jailed and sacked for carrying hundreds of bottles of illegal cough syrup - a popular drug in the south Asian country, an official said Wednesday.
Major Reza Shah Mohammad Zillullah was arrested in a northern district by police in July with 780 bottles of the syrup, which is locally called Phensidyl, and was tried by a military court, an army spokesman said.
"He was court martialed and was found guilty. He has been sacked and sentenced to one year in jail," the spokesman told amaderadda.com.
Drug addiction, particularly to Phensidyl, which contains the painkiller codeine, is on the rise in Bangladesh, spawning a lucrative cross-border smuggling trade.
Made in India, Phensidyl was first introduced to Bangladesh in 1980s and fast became popular among the youths in the country, where alcohol is generally illegal.
